Journal Entry #4

After finishing my second week, I might say this was a really interesting experience. When I first started this I thought of myself as a ‘’green person’’ but when I started to collect my data I discover I wasn’t that ‘’green’’, maybe I’m not that bad but I knew I could do something and this challenge really helped me to improve and make a change in my life and in my way of thinking. The first big step was to know in what I need to improve the most and after analyzing I decided I had a problem with water, electricity and food. In one and a half weeks I changed my life a lot and it wasn’t that difficult. The right way of changing your life isn’t trying to make big changes, normally that way you don’t succeed. If you want to change start with small thing, big changes are made up of small ones. Things like turning off the lights or not use the AC, avoid using the dryer, taking short showers, closing every faucet in your house, and trying to eat healthier will not only change your habits, but it will also change your way of thinking, improve your health and make you waste less money. Now I know I wasted a lot of things I will need in a future, if I could change my life anyone can. Try to change your life, your community and your planet. Be greener.

Journal Entry #3

I’ve made more drastic changes in my daily life to know how far I can go without passing the ‘’normal limit’’ in my life. I have improve a lot, now I can easily take short showers, I eat less but healthier, and I remember to unplug whatever I used o I’m not using. New changes are…

Saving electricity:
  • I don’t use the dryer machine at all (we are having really hot days).
  • Use my computer only if really necessary.

Saving water:
  • 2 showers a day (3-5 minutes).

Eating efficiently:
  • Now I take a sandwich to school, no more buying food.
  • I eat at least 5 to 6 fruits (that makes almost half of my day).
I need to say these changes are not only improving my habits but my health and my pocket.

Journal Entry #2– Changes in week one

After knowing which were my problems I decided to make a change in saving electricity and water, and in eating efficiently. I notice it was difficult for me to unplug all the electric devices I’m not using and that I like to take long showers. About my eating I knew it was going to be difficult and it really was.

Something’s I did for saving energy:
·
If I was going to use something only once I unplug it.
·        I didn’t use the AC if it wasn’t REALLY necessary.
·        I left sticky notes on the light switches saying turn off so that whenever I left the room I’ll turn the lights off.
·        I didn’t use unnecessary devices.
·        I didn’t use the hot water.

Things I did to eat efficiently:

Reduce the amount of junk food I eat
Eat less but healthier
·        Instead of buying many water bottles y bought one and reused it.
·        I tried to balances my meals by eating more on the morning and less on lunch and even less on diner.

Things I did for saving water:

I reduced the times I used the toilet.
·      I close every open faucet.
·      I tried to repair every leak I found
·      I shower only 3 – 5 minutes
·      I took a shower only in the morning and at nights.
·      I also tried to not use too much dishes so I didn’t have to waste a lot of water washing them.

Journal Entry #1 – Baseline Data Collection

First of all this was a nice experience I learned a lot of myself, actually it was like studying my habits and how I act, what I eat in a normal day. But I need to say that collecting data it’s a bit difficult for me, because I’m not use to having to record everything I eat, do, or buy and the fact that I have to do things normally  thinking what if someone looks at my results and they talk about me or something. I truly expected worst results than what I got, now I know I’m no not that bad ,but surely I need to work to improve something’s I didn’t like but it’s better to know in what you are wrong and change it , that to live lying to yourself. What really called my attention was I found a terrible problem on wasting electricity and in what I eat; I discover I have many devices plug, and most of the time I’m not even using! With what I diet, I think it’s not the best things I can eat… need to be a lot healthier. I’m going to try my best to improve my habits and try to be ‘’greener’’ and do something for my environment.

And here is my data...

Behavior Of Solutions

Crystals, such as table salt can dissolve in water making what we call a solution. When we add too much salt to the water some of this salt will not dissolve as the other instead it will remain as crystal, this process is called crystallization, if we add more water it will dissolve this equal stage we called it solution equilibrium, we have enough solvent and solute. Even though  it seems impossible  we can control the solubility, with pressure and temperature. In my chemistry class last Wednesday we prove this with Pepsi cans, we had 8 cans 4 were cold and 4 were at normal temperature, we threw them from a 2'50 meters distance make this a great pressure in them. Pepsi is solution of gas and a substance, Henry's laws states the higher the partial pressure of a gas, the solubility of the gas at a given temperature, because of this we expected for the Pepsi at room temperature to have a greater reaction in this case splitting than the cold Pepsi, and that's it... I would really like to include a picture but I couldn't.

Apocalipsis 3:15-16
